History of a LUXURY HOTEL

From a luxury resort to a naval hospital, to a correctional institution; these have been the three faces of what is now the Correctional Rehabilitation Center (CRC).
The first narcotic addict inmates arrived on the security fenced grounds of what stared out as a play ground for millionaires, and what was later a haven for battle-torn Navy men. When the first 20 inmates were driven through the hills on the western edge of community, they approached a sprawling 90-acre complex of buildings, many of them crumbling with decay and disuse, which bore only a ghost of a resemblance to the former great, roaring days of a luxury hotel, which had been constructed at a cost of nearly $4 million dollars.
In time the place would bustle again. It would be busy with the job of rehabilitating men, not entertaining them or simply repairing their physical ills, how did this curious change come about? What were the steps which led to a complete overhaul of the former Lake Norconian Club, one of the most unusual landmarks in Riverside County? We will explore the history of what is now CRC, since it was built in 1928 by Rex B. Clark.
